In this tutorial You need the following:

Panel

Timeline Panel
Atleast 2 symbols
-enemy

First
of all give your main character an instance name, and
give your health bar an instance name.
-Symbol
1's instance name : "healthBar"
-Symbol 2's instance name : "mainCharacter"
-Do not put an instance name on your enemy if you plan
on having more than one

4.)
Inside
of your movie Clip put an animation of what it would
look like for your health bar to go down, I recomend
putting as many frames as you want HP, or to put 100
frames to represent percentage. In this tutorial I would
recomend you putting as many frames as you want for
health. until you become a little more advanced and
learn more about variables and functions. . |

5.)
Then on the first frame
put a stop action, so that the animation will not be
played until an action has been met. And if you want
you can put an action at the final frame telling the
movie to go to a youLoose screen or something, with
something like _root.gotoAndStop("youLoose");

6.)Then
the final step would be to put an action on each enemy
saying if the enemy hits the main character, the healthbar
plays through the frames while its being hit.
